Shut off your yard hydrant without disrupting water service!

The YHME Shutoff Kit attaches to your Yard Hydrant Made Easy™ and allows you to isolate your hydrant for maintenance without disturbing other water users. Now you can enjoy the no-dig benefits of the YHME while having ultimate control over your water system. Simply remove the cap from the key sleeve and operate the valve with a curb key.*

YHME Shutoff Kit Features:

  • Premium 1” FIP, full-port, lead-free brass ball valve (curb stop)

  • 1” lead-free brass nipple

  • 1-1/2” PVC key sleeve adapter attached to top of valve

  • (2) custom, black ABS brackets and stainless steel screws to attach key sleeve to YHME

  • Custom, black ABS cap for top of key sleeve

  • Square-head screwdriver bit

  • May be used with any Yard Hydrant Made Easy™ (telescoping or kit model)

  • User to provide 1-1/2” PVC pipe to serve as key sleeve.

  • Curb key not included.*

Installation Instructions:

  1. Follow the instructions included with your Yard Hydrant Made Easy™ such that the YHME is at its final length prior to burial.

  2. Make sure the hydrant is installed into the YHME, with the top cap in place, prior to tightening any fittings onto the 1” FIP inlet at the bottom of the YHME. (This is a precautionary measure to ensure that the pitless adapter stays properly aligned.)

  3. Apply thread sealant (tape and paste) to one end of the brass nipple.

  4. Screw this end of the nipple into the shutoff valve (no need to fully tighten yet).

  5. Apply thread sealant (tape and paste) to the other end of the brass nipple.

  6. Screw the valve-nipple assembly into the 1” FIP inlet at the bottom of the YHME, ensuring that the valve handle is pointing straight up after fittings are fully tightened.

  7. Locate the two brackets, one about halfway up the YHME and the other near the top of the YHME, vertically centered with the 1” FIP inlet at the bottom of the YHME.

  8. Attach the large end of each bracket to the YHME using 4 of the provided screws per bracket. Small, round impressions on the bracket indicate screw location.

  9. Determine final length of 1-1/2” PVC “key sleeve”, cut to length, and insert into the PVC adapter on top of the shutoff valve (no need to glue).

  10. Screw the 1-1/2” PVC pipe to the two brackets, again using 4 screws per bracket. (Total job will use 16 screws, but we will ship a few extra.)

  11. Install the cap onto the top of the 1-1/2” PVC pipe.

  12. Install the system per the instructions included with the Yard Hydrant Made Easy™.

*NOTE: You will need a curb key that is long enough to operate the curb-stop valve and whose handle does not interfere with the YHME or the hydrant. See dimensional drawing for clearance details. Since the installer determines the final bury depth and hydrant handle elevation, it is up to the user/installer to determine the appropriate length for their curb key. You can make your own curb key using 1/2” threaded steel pipe and a 1/2” FIP curb key attachment like this one.
